Good Read: The Girl With The Louding Voice - Abi Dare

In this remarkable story, Adunni, the main character, depicts ambition fuelled with a burning desire to succeed despite all odds. Tales of this type still abound in Lagos, and they are portrayed in the media daily. Adunni is hailed as the poor girl with a rich mind, "Sherlock Holmes," who never stops asking intelligent questions, a child-bride, and a strong-willed girl who grew up fast due to the circumstance her parents put her through. However, she had the guts to pursue the life she wanted. - An education by any means necessary.  Adunni finally got her groove back after reading such an easy book, I could relate to the characters there. the harsh and despicable reality of Lagos till date. I would recommend this book to my friends and would love to see it turned into a film.

Oprah's Weight Watchers Commercial: Money Spinner Or Tear-Jerker?

It is that time of the year again, when resolutions are made and completed, broken off, and a fresh start is created. This is day the dailies is filled with everything from how to low a stone, to how to shed all the fat from Christmas. B-o-r-i-n-g or what? To some, it is also a money spinner...

“Inside every overweight woman is a woman she knows she can be,” Oprah tells us. In other words, your real self (or authentic self, to borrow a phrase Winfrey loves) is some ideal thin version who is trapped, waiting for you to finally get it together to lose the weight. In addition to Winfrey talking to the camera in a sun-dappled clearing, the ad features vintage footage of the icon struggling on a treadmill and jogging miserably in slo-mo. These are her failed attempts at releasing this inner thin person. And failure isn’t my word—it’s hers. “Every time I tried and failed,” she says, “every time I tried again, and every time I tried again, has brought me to this most powerful moment to say, ‘If not now, when?’”
BVs, you would wonder why I posted this journey of Oprah on her weight watch. Some saw this as a tear jerker, because it resonated with them, while some saw this commercial as a money spinner because it just caused Weight Watchers stocks to soar. Read it here. Whatever this advert has done to you, how are you faring with your new years resolution? Don't tell me you are still finishing off  the chocolate and savory food from last year!
