Good Read: The Girl With The Louding Voice - Abi Dare

In this remarkable story, Adunni, the main character, depicts ambition fuelled with a burning desire to succeed despite all odds. Tales of this type still abound in Lagos, and they are portrayed in the media daily. Adunni is hailed as the poor girl with a rich mind, "Sherlock Holmes," who never stops asking intelligent questions, a child-bride, and a strong-willed girl who grew up fast due to the circumstance her parents put her through. However, she had the guts to pursue the life she wanted. - An education by any means necessary.  Adunni finally got her groove back after reading such an easy book, I could relate to the characters there. the harsh and despicable reality of Lagos till date. I would recommend this book to my friends and would love to see it turned into a film.

History: The Igbos And Slave Trade

The photo above is that of Prince Harry on his recent trip to Antigua as part of the country's 35th year independence. The attire on those children reminded me of the Igbo peoples' "George" attire.

See the similarities in the attire draped on those children in Antigua and the Igbo men celebrating. I also read the voice newspaper few weeks back about a Jamaican, who traced his roots to his Nigerian heritage, it took a while to achieve such feat, but it was accomplished.

He discovered that he was from the igbo tribe, read here. So now I ask my self this question, how far were the Igbos dispersed during the trans Atlantic slave trade era?

I did a bit of research and found out, that countries like Antigua, St Lucia, Dominican Republic, Barbados, Haiti, United States people enslaved from the "Bight of Biafra" Bight of Benin, Sene-Gambia, Gold Coast now known as Ghana, Upper Guinea.

Are these subjects taught in the Nigerian schools, if not why? During my time at school, it was Mungo Park's discovery of the Niger, the expedition of William Wilberforce and the Lander brothers that was taught during social studies, who that epp? I could not relate at all!

I now see why I have Jamaican friends, who are really love watching Nollywood movies and they don't joke about it at all.
