Mark Zuckerberg announced this week that he is now a proud father to Max, his baby girl and he shared a letter to that effect which has been read with mixed reviews. Daily Mail's Amanda Platell wrote on her column today, the letter he should have sent.... Read after cut.
Even an innocent selfie you post online can make you the target of trolls, whose twisted minds have only found a forum for hatred thanks to internet creations like mine. If you look a bit plump or plain, or seem a bit too fortunate (you are an heiress, after all), they will mercilessly taunt you.
Worse still, their words may encourage you to seek out sick websites that pander to every adolescent girl's insecurities: sites that encourage you to starve yourself to be as thin as some brainless model, or tell you that self-harming is fun and normal.
Do not believe a single word you read there. You will find far more inspiration, enjoyment and fulfilment in reading a good book than you ever will by surfing through endless Facebook posts, Instagram pictures or tweets.
But perhaps the greatest danger you will encounter online is pornography. Today, almost a third of all internet traffic is related to porn. It is poisoning the minds of boys you will meet. You will need to be strong and determined to resist their demands, and must teach them to treat you with the respect you deserve.
Sorry to be graphic, but that means never sending a sext message, no matter how trustworthy the recipient. If I have learned anything from running Facebook, it's that there is no such thing as privacy any more. After all, that's how I made our billions!
Come to think of it, perhaps we won't give you a computer until you're 18, just to be safe. Love, Dad.
PS: Remember, paying tax is only for the little people.
Does Amanda have a point?
