Professor Wole Soyinka Tipped For Role At Oxford

Professor Wole Soyinka has received support for his nomination as Oxford university's next professor of poetry. The position is being held by Professor Geoffrey Hill, a post which is being regarded as the second most prestigious position in the UK.

Candidates needs to be nominated by at least 50 oxford graduates, the Nigerian playwright and poet is leading the competition with more than 90 nominations. Professor Wole Soyinka is the first African to receive the 1986 Nobel Prize in Literature. He is yet to give an official statement of intent.

The winners will be announced on the 19th June, 2015,  the professor is expected to deliver one public lecture per term titled "facilitating the art of poetry in the university."
