In this remarkable story, Adunni, the main character, depicts ambition fuelled with a burning desire to succeed despite all odds. Tales of this type still abound in Lagos, and they are portrayed in the media daily. Adunni is hailed as the poor girl with a rich mind, "Sherlock Holmes," who never stops asking intelligent questions, a child-bride, and a strong-willed girl who grew up fast due to the circumstance her parents put her through. However, she had the guts to pursue the life she wanted. - An education by any means necessary.  Adunni finally got her groove back after reading such an easy book, I could relate to the characters there. the harsh and despicable reality of Lagos till date. I would recommend this book to my friends and would love to see it turned into a film.

TBT: Still Have Them In Nigeria?

The functionalities of then.
Do you still remember those products, where you rubbed down by any of the creams or powder to look like a little cutie? To the boarders, was cabin biscuits or St Louis your favourite? Which one of them did you recollect ever using?

Stella pomade and sand were two worst enemies, and the sun did not make matters any better, from the sweat to the sticky clothes to rowdy pedestrians, a miracle and God's timely intervention was an amazing grace.

Jet cream made a difference, the smell to the texture on the skin made days out exciting. Blue band margarine, who would detest blue band? on a loaf of white bread, favoured over Planta butter any day. Blue band on Okin biscuits was a little girl's delight.

Tree top drink was for those who had done well, I could not resist eating ogi with lime flavoured tree top - no need for sugar, it was the best.

St Louis sugar cubes got me into trouble! ain't mentioning any names. Bazooka bubble gum, did you enjoy eating them, or your never tasted any? hmm.

Mentholated powder and National Electric Power Authority (N.E.P.A) were very good friends - it rhymed with rashes and masquerade faces.
