  In this remarkable story, Adunni, the main character, depicts ambition fuelled with a burning desire to succeed despite all odds. Tales of this type still abound in Lagos, and they are portrayed in the media daily. Adunni is hailed as the poor girl with a rich mind, "Sherlock Holmes," who never stops asking intelligent questions, a child-bride, and a strong-willed girl who grew up fast due to the circumstance her parents put her through. However, she had the guts to pursue the life she wanted. - An education by any means necessary.  Adunni finally got her groove back after reading such an easy book, I could relate to the characters there. the harsh and despicable reality of Lagos till date. I would recommend this book to my friends and would love to see it turned into a film.

Watch The Nigeria Traditional Doctor Working On Pregnant Women

The video below narrates how Nigeria's traditional midwives assist women in giving birth. But who are these birth attendees and how do they work? BattaBox went all the way to investigate.

The first shock is the preparations that the staff prepare for the mothers:

"We use palm oil,fish,fresh grinded pepper after 5-9moths of pregnancy," explains the nurse who prepares the traditional concoction. The hospital is recognised and licensed by the Lagos state government. And they are almost always full as many women attest to the success of the facilities:

"Their bill is affordable and ok" one of the waiting patient said 

"It's the best," a nursing mother on admission said.

And then the head doctor gives an example of the ultrasound - using a calabash and a mirror.

"It is not an ordinary mirror," explains the doctor as he presses the calabash against the woman's pregnant belly. We have been in this for more than 20yrs,we have connection with the general hospital to help confirm the test ,and we have never record death of a mother and child before
