In this remarkable story, Adunni, the main character, depicts ambition fuelled with a burning desire to succeed despite all odds. Tales of this type still abound in Lagos, and they are portrayed in the media daily. Adunni is hailed as the poor girl with a rich mind, "Sherlock Holmes," who never stops asking intelligent questions, a child-bride, and a strong-willed girl who grew up fast due to the circumstance her parents put her through. However, she had the guts to pursue the life she wanted. - An education by any means necessary.  Adunni finally got her groove back after reading such an easy book, I could relate to the characters there. the harsh and despicable reality of Lagos till date. I would recommend this book to my friends and would love to see it turned into a film.

Adebowale Adeyemi, 38, of Cowbridge Lane, Barking was sentenced on Monday, 6 June at Snaresbrook Crown Court to three years and seven months' imprisonment after pleading guilty to causing death by careless driving; causing death whilst not driving a vehicle in accordance with a licence; and causing death whilst driving uninsured.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service to Longbridge Road, junction with Wilmington Road, Barking, at 20:05hrs on Sunday, 1 February 2015 following reports of a road traffic collision.

Officers attended and found a female pedestrian suffering serious injuries. The woman, Cissy Howlett, 54, from Barking was taken to an east London hospital in a critical condition. She died a short while later at 21:21hrs.

A post-mortem examination took place on Wednesday, 4 February at Queens Hospital Mortuary and cause of death was given as multiple injuries. Officers established that a silver Vauxhall Meriva, which Adeyemi was driving, collided with a central traffic island which caused Cissy to react and fall in to the path of another vehicle.

Adeyemi, who did not stop at the scene, was arrested on Wednesday, 4 February and subsequently charged on Wednesday, 14 October, 2015. Detective Constable Alan Curtis said: "This is an extremely tragic case. Cissy and her husband were on a night out when the actions of Adeyemi caused her death.
"Adeyemi should not have been driving that night; he was a provisional licence holder and was not being supervised. In addition to this, his vision was severely impaired and he later failed an eyesight test to meet the minimum standard for driving."
