In this remarkable story, Adunni, the main character, depicts ambition fuelled with a burning desire to succeed despite all odds. Tales of this type still abound in Lagos, and they are portrayed in the media daily. Adunni is hailed as the poor girl with a rich mind, "Sherlock Holmes," who never stops asking intelligent questions, a child-bride, and a strong-willed girl who grew up fast due to the circumstance her parents put her through. However, she had the guts to pursue the life she wanted. - An education by any means necessary.  Adunni finally got her groove back after reading such an easy book, I could relate to the characters there. the harsh and despicable reality of Lagos till date. I would recommend this book to my friends and would love to see it turned into a film.

Good Read: The Fishermen - Chigozie Obioma
Can a mad man's curse ruin a family? Such is the narrative from the perspective of a nine-year old Benjamin. Four brothers: Ikenna, Boja, Obembe, and Benjamin went on a fishing expedition that ends tragically when they were confronted by Abulu, the village maniac.

I pondered while reading, was it their strict father's discipline with the "horsetail whip" that triggered off Ikenna strange behaviour? could the curse have been averted by prayers? Tragedy after tragedy befell the family and it was shattered to its core - The gods are not to blame or a lunatic's prophesy fulfilled?

Would love to see this novel as a play, it was a book that was refreshing, twined in 1990's Nigeria from the Late M.K.O Abiola's June 12 nullified election, to the commotion it caused where lives were lost and a mother psychotic episode after losing her 2 children in strange circumstances beyond her control all in a vibrant city called Akure.
