In this remarkable story, Adunni, the main character, depicts ambition fuelled with a burning desire to succeed despite all odds. Tales of this type still abound in Lagos, and they are portrayed in the media daily. Adunni is hailed as the poor girl with a rich mind, "Sherlock Holmes," who never stops asking intelligent questions, a child-bride, and a strong-willed girl who grew up fast due to the circumstance her parents put her through. However, she had the guts to pursue the life she wanted. - An education by any means necessary.  Adunni finally got her groove back after reading such an easy book, I could relate to the characters there. the harsh and despicable reality of Lagos till date. I would recommend this book to my friends and would love to see it turned into a film.

Classics: Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe

Classics: Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
I am sure this novel is not new to most of you. Things Fall Apart is a classic novel that describes pre-colonial Nigeria from an eastern Nigerian's perspective in the person of the late professor Chinua Achebe who was renowned as a great novelist to have come out of Africa and a founding father of  Nigerian literature.

This novel was introduced in Nigerian schools as part of its literature curriculum, I could remember my teacher who took me on this subject, he was very keen and strict; this was my foray into the world of literature and poetry. It helped me develop my love for literature.

I had to re-read this novel again recently to recall to memory from an adult's perspective. I enjoyed each character (Okonkwo, Unoka, Ezinma, Ikemefuna, Obierika, Ekwefi) better. I could remember the film adaptation was shown on NTA back in the day, featuring the Late Justus Esiri, Late Oba Funsho Adeolu (Eleyinmi of Village Headmaster).

Okonkwo despised his father, Unoka's lackadaisical attitude to living, which gave him the determination to forge a name for himself successfully; but allowed his anger get the better of him in the midst of change. A good read worthy of a bookshelf.

Share your thoughts if you have ever read this classic novel.
