In this remarkable story, Adunni, the main character, depicts ambition fuelled with a burning desire to succeed despite all odds. Tales of this type still abound in Lagos, and they are portrayed in the media daily. Adunni is hailed as the poor girl with a rich mind, "Sherlock Holmes," who never stops asking intelligent questions, a child-bride, and a strong-willed girl who grew up fast due to the circumstance her parents put her through. However, she had the guts to pursue the life she wanted. - An education by any means necessary.  Adunni finally got her groove back after reading such an easy book, I could relate to the characters there. the harsh and despicable reality of Lagos till date. I would recommend this book to my friends and would love to see it turned into a film.

The Bane Of Domestic Violence, The Silent Killer

The word Domestic Violence is such a destructive force that tarnishes a family for a long time. From traditions imposed as culture to laws unenforced, this monster in our midst seems to be gaining ground by the minute, last week there was an uproar on the case of a woman killed by her husband alleged of having an affair.... Read here.

Everyone has given their version of the case which is ongoing. Social media has become a platform for victims to narrate their martial ordeal and what they did to resolve the issue, while some are still waiting on the wings of hope and prayers, yet dying unnoticed or being institutionalized in a mental home!

In the UK, a law has been passed on controlled domestic abuse also called "emotional abuse" and is punishable by up to five years in prison. Controlling behaviour can include the following
  • Isolating a person from their friends and family
  • Controlling what they do, where they go, who they can see, what they wear and when they sleep
  • Repeatedly putting them down, such as telling them they are worthless
  • Enforcing rules and activity which humiliate, degrade or dehumanise the victim
  • Financial abuse
  • Threats to reveal or publish private information
When will President Buhari's administration step up and enforce a law to make it unlawful for domestic violence to be condoned in a relationship, what will the lawmakers do from this moment henceforth? Televised jingles is not enough, action should be taken immediately to put a stop to this erratic practice.

This is one of the unspoken changes we need in Nigeria.
