Good Read: The Girl With The Louding Voice - Abi Dare

In this remarkable story, Adunni, the main character, depicts ambition fuelled with a burning desire to succeed despite all odds. Tales of this type still abound in Lagos, and they are portrayed in the media daily. Adunni is hailed as the poor girl with a rich mind, "Sherlock Holmes," who never stops asking intelligent questions, a child-bride, and a strong-willed girl who grew up fast due to the circumstance her parents put her through. However, she had the guts to pursue the life she wanted. - An education by any means necessary.  Adunni finally got her groove back after reading such an easy book, I could relate to the characters there. the harsh and despicable reality of Lagos till date. I would recommend this book to my friends and would love to see it turned into a film.

In Celebration Of Children: Is It Necessary Or Not???

In Celebration Of Children: Is It Necessary Or Not???
"This year, I wish to emphasize the importance of ensuring that the commitments made by the international community to the world’s children are extended to a group of children who are often forgotten or overlooked: those deprived of their liberty." - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
I once asked a lady today if children are been celebrated here in the UK; as Nigerians mark children's day every May 27th, she pondered and said no. It would be good if children were given a day to feel special and celebrated by a country, not given powers to manipulate their parents and government thereby becoming ferals and tearaway kids. Just found out that National children's day was celebrated on the 15th May, but that went unnoticed!

Even though Universal children's day falls on the 20th of November annually, should children be seen and not heard, talk less of publicly celebrated,  or the government choose not to give this a great shout-out?

As a child, every year on this day was what every child looked forward to. Being a school-free day and selected for a march past with every school in the vicinity. Attending children's day event was a feat in itself.

Share your thoughts, how is children's day celebrated in your country?
