In this remarkable story, Adunni, the main character, depicts ambition fuelled with a burning desire to succeed despite all odds. Tales of this type still abound in Lagos, and they are portrayed in the media daily. Adunni is hailed as the poor girl with a rich mind, "Sherlock Holmes," who never stops asking intelligent questions, a child-bride, and a strong-willed girl who grew up fast due to the circumstance her parents put her through. However, she had the guts to pursue the life she wanted. - An education by any means necessary.  Adunni finally got her groove back after reading such an easy book, I could relate to the characters there. the harsh and despicable reality of Lagos till date. I would recommend this book to my friends and would love to see it turned into a film.

AU Sends Delegates To Monitor Nigeria Election
Dlamini Zuma, the chairperson, African Union Commission (AUC), has appointed Joaquim Alberto-Chissano, former Mozambique president, to lead a 50-member election observers to Nigeria for next month’s general election.

The Cable reports that Zuma gave the approval in Addis Ababa on Thursday, ahead of Nigeria’s general election expected to hold between February 14 and February 28. Chissano is to be assisted by Aisha Abdullahi, AU commissioner for political affairs. The commission had earlier deployed a team of 15 long-term electoral experts to the country under the African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM).

Zuma said the long-term experts would remain in the country until March 11 to observe all the critical stages of the electoral process. She said the 15-man long term observers are expected to be joined by Chissano’s short-term observers team, who were selected from different AU member states.

The short-term team is expected to arrive in Nigeria on February 7 to follow the electoral process and also meet with government and electoral officials, candidates, political parties, civil society representatives and the media.
