Meet The Fruit Technical Manager, Who Taste Berries For A Living

Meet Mr. Artur Grochala, the professional strawberry taster who works at ASDA as the fruit technical manager. He visits up to 60 strawberry farms in the UK each year and hundreds more in Holland, Belgium and Egypt, trying around 20 varieties of strawberry every day.

'I also need to test the eating quality of the berries, for optimum taste they need to be picked when fully ripened and are meant to be eaten at room temperature. An average day will see me taste a minimum of 20 strawberries and over 100 different varieties of strawberries a week.'

When Mr Grochala’s not tasting strawberries he is sampling hundreds of other berries including blackberries, raspberries and blueberries - eating hundreds of different varieties of fruit every week.

 'I feel very lucky to get paid to travel the world tasting fruit. I love the taste of strawberries and they’re good for you too. I never have trouble getting my five a day.'

His mouth must be fully insured for this role.
