Good Read: The Girl With The Louding Voice - Abi Dare

In this remarkable story, Adunni, the main character, depicts ambition fuelled with a burning desire to succeed despite all odds. Tales of this type still abound in Lagos, and they are portrayed in the media daily. Adunni is hailed as the poor girl with a rich mind, "Sherlock Holmes," who never stops asking intelligent questions, a child-bride, and a strong-willed girl who grew up fast due to the circumstance her parents put her through. However, she had the guts to pursue the life she wanted. - An education by any means necessary.  Adunni finally got her groove back after reading such an easy book, I could relate to the characters there. the harsh and despicable reality of Lagos till date. I would recommend this book to my friends and would love to see it turned into a film.

If Rachel Dolezal Is "Trans-racial", Then That Makes Me "Trans-rich"

The week gone by was one filled with wonders, from transgender celebrations to trans-racial acclamations, Like my people will say "Come and see American wonder!!!" Fake it till you make it is the mantra people use to encourage themselves on their way to abundance and that is what NAACP leader, Rachel Dolezal did till she got exposed by her parents as the white woman acting black.

I have read people's reaction to this story and what baffled me is that we are all in the same boat but do not realise it yet. From bleached skins to tanned skin, from fake weaves to tight wigs, from fake accents to funny gaits, from champagne lifestyle on dole money to acting rich - all in the name of self branding and acceptance in the society.

Why did National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) chose Rachel Dolezal as its president?, was it her skin colour, eloquence, academic achievements or looks that mesmerised them in their selection process? If she looked like Lupita Nyong'o, would she have been chosen? what happens now after these allegations, would she still continue to represent the African-Americans?

We all have a perception of ourselves we project unto others, till then "unto thyself be true"
