Meet New Sensation Ikechi Anya, Scotland's Winger

Meet Ikechi Anya, 26,  the son of Nigerian scientist and a Romanian mother, former economist, who looks after the elderly. He developed his love for football at an early age, but his father would not permit it, being from a strict family where education was top priority. Ikechi's love for football waxed stronger.

His mother belief in his sporting abilities encouraged him. "She was pushing me to play football, her belief in me from day one and has been there through 'good and bad' says Anya.  She always looked at me like I was the best player in the world. With that kind of confidence, you can't go wrong".

Anya chose to play international football for Scotland, the land of his birth, but would also have been eligible for. He received his first call up to the Scotland national team on 23 August 2013 for Scotland's World Cup qualifying. He made his debut for Scotland against Belgium as a substitute on the hour mark on 6 September 2013 in a World Cup qualifying match, although Scotland were already unable to qualify for the final tournament. He made his first start and scored his first international goal in the following game, a 2–1 win in Macedonia on 10 September. On 7 September 2014 he scored against the world champions Germany in the first match of
