  In this remarkable story, Adunni, the main character, depicts ambition fuelled with a burning desire to succeed despite all odds. Tales of this type still abound in Lagos, and they are portrayed in the media daily. Adunni is hailed as the poor girl with a rich mind, "Sherlock Holmes," who never stops asking intelligent questions, a child-bride, and a strong-willed girl who grew up fast due to the circumstance her parents put her through. However, she had the guts to pursue the life she wanted. - An education by any means necessary.  Adunni finally got her groove back after reading such an easy book, I could relate to the characters there. the harsh and despicable reality of Lagos till date. I would recommend this book to my friends and would love to see it turned into a film.

National HIV Testing Week, November 22nd - 30th 2014

The first National HIV Testing Week takes place from 23-30 November in the run up to World AIDS Day on 1 December 2014.

During the week, many organisations in England are teaming up to encourage gay men and African people to take an HIV test. These are the people most at risk of getting HIV. Across England, organisations will offer more opportunities to test, both in clinics and in the community.
The week aims to:

  • Increase the numbers of gay men and African people taking an HIV test
  • Raise awareness in the gay and African communities of the importance of testing
  • Increase the number of opportunities to take a test at clinics and in the community

    • These aims will help to reduce the number of people who are diagnosed late with HIV. Early diagnosis helps people to manage their HIV and also reduces the risk of passing it on to other people.

    The armed force are known for not joking around when it comes to spotting impostors wearing their outfits, whereas in some quarters, this could also be worn as a fashion statement! A man in Nigeria was caught and confronted by army officers for wearing a camouflage vest. He was later apprehended; but the impostor's response was not forthcoming but highly hilarious.
