  In this remarkable story, Adunni, the main character, depicts ambition fuelled with a burning desire to succeed despite all odds. Tales of this type still abound in Lagos, and they are portrayed in the media daily. Adunni is hailed as the poor girl with a rich mind, "Sherlock Holmes," who never stops asking intelligent questions, a child-bride, and a strong-willed girl who grew up fast due to the circumstance her parents put her through. However, she had the guts to pursue the life she wanted. - An education by any means necessary.  Adunni finally got her groove back after reading such an easy book, I could relate to the characters there. the harsh and despicable reality of Lagos till date. I would recommend this book to my friends and would love to see it turned into a film.

Sickening Practice of FGM Still Waxes Strong In Rural Kenya

The year 2014 brought us the awareness of the sufferings of women who had undergone the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and the effects it has had on their lives, emotionally and psychologically. In some parts of the world, this practice is deep rooted into their culture and religion, and it would take the effort of the government co-operation of the elders to curb the practice that has been passed down from generations till date.
Reuters reporter, Mr. Modola captured some pictures from rural Pokot, in the Baringo County in Kenya, of underage frighten girls undergoing FGM as a rite of passage to maturity. Despite the ban of the practice by the government, FGM still continues to thrive in the poor rural areas due to lack of knowledge of its adverse effects on the girls in later life by the local elders.  The last picture shows a man present at the cut ceremony. What is his role in FGM?
